Rana Salam, one of the most celebrated designers who is known for her understanding and use of Middle Eastern popular art and culture, will be in Doha to give two lectures on pop culture in the Middle East.
In “Shaabi to Chic: Pop Culture is Consumer Cultureâ€, Rana will talk about how Middle Eastern pop culture transcends social hierarchy, age and gender. It is a culture where we all somewhere, somehow, consume the same products, be it on a school bus or while watching a cinema screen.
The lectures will take place on Monday, October 2 at 7pm at the Fire Station Cinema at Mohammed Bin Thani St, and again on Wednesday, October 4 at 1pm VCUarts Qatar’s Atrium at Education City.
Rana’s work has been widely published in magazines including Elle Deco, Wallpaper, Creative Review, and Design, and she draws on vibrant imagery and merges it with the latest design technology to create her unique vision of graphic design and art direction.
The lectures are free and open to the public.
