Doha: Driving schools across Doha are witnessing huge demand for driving classes for summer. The registration for classes is high from university students as education institutions will be closed after Eid for summer vacation.

“We are expecting more pressure after Eid as many people, especially universities students are registering for driving licence. Also, several aspirants have already registered with us but will start driving classes after Eid,”  Mohamed Al Zain Ibrahim, Executive Manager of Gulf  Driving School, told The Peninsula.

Regarding the work pressure in Ramadan, he said the demand from driving licence seekers is good. Due to less number of working hours, many students have been asked to take admission after Eid.
Explaining the reason of the low success rate of trainees, especially road test, he said that the General Directorate of Traffic is strict in this subject and keen that only people who drive very good will get the permit. More trainees are failed in road test compared to the theoretical exam or parking test.

The General Directorate of Traffic said earlier that it has tightened mechanisms of issuing the driving licence and the aim is to decrease the rate of injuries and deaths resulting from traffic accidents. Al Zain said that driving schools have witnessed many developments and more are on going in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic.

One of the important things that the driving schools have seen is the unified driving curriculum. The aim of the new curriculum, is to completely regulate the training. It is prepared in more than 18 languages which are commonly used in Qatar instead of the existing 10 languages. The curriculum was developed on the basis of training and international standards and removes the chances of the manipulation related to the driving test and it records total hours required from a trainee to must attend.

Al Zain pointed out that there is a focus on the theoretical test and understanding the meanings of the traffic signals and work is going on to develop these things more in the coming period.

As for the opportunities available to the trainee for road test, he said there are two opportunities, and for the internal test it is open and can be repeated more than one times.
