KidZania-20 Years Inspiring Children


KidZania, one of the fastest-growing edutainment concepts in the world, celebrates 20 years of operations since the opening of its first facility in Mexico City

20 years ago, KidZania, formerly known as The City of Children (La Ciudad de los Niños in Spanish), opened its first edutainment facility at Santa Fe Shopping Center in Mexico City on September 1999.

Back at that time, the founders of this innovative Mexican concept identified two important aspects: the lack of quality entertainment options for children, and kids’ innate interest for role-playing.  The simple, yet powerful idea, of incorporating role-playing activities at a city designed especially for children that combines learning and fun, became the main pillar of the KidZania Concept.

After very successful 6 years of operations in Mexico City, KidZania Monterrey, the second facility in Mexico opened its doors. That same year, the company started growing internationally through a franchise model and KidZania Tokyo was the first KidZania City abroad.

KidZania has crossed cultures, borders & languages and currently operates in 25 countries with 27 founded KidZania Cities and 11 more in different stages of development; including: KidZania Abu Dhabi, KidZania Dallas, KidZania Surabaya, KidZania Nagoya, KidZania Chicago, KidZania Johannesburg, KidZania New York, KidZania Riyadh, KidZania Giza, KidZania Paris and KidZania Toronto.
