Over 5,000 trees to be planted for 2022 FIFA World Cup

DOHA: 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar will help further plant more than 5,000 trees, and create more than 850,000 square metre of new green spaces and parks.

This was revealed during fifth edition of Sustainability Summit 2018 which was held last week. In the same conference, the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD) signed a new memorandum of understanding to test and demonstrate the BlueStorage System at GORD’s research facility at Al Thumama Stadium Precinct in Qatar.

According to a press release issued by GORD yesterday, in “Sustainable Building Design & Construction of Qatar’s Legacy Projects” session which was held on the second day of the conference, Jose Retana, Sustainability Senior Manager at Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee, reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to delivering a sustainable and inclusive 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament and football experience, as evident in the various 2022 FIFA World Cup stadium projects.

For instance, the Al-Thumama stadium has acquired high level GSAS certifications in “Design & Build” & Construction Management stages.

Generally, the 2022 FIFA World Cup will help further plant more than 5,000 trees, and create more than 850,000 m2 new green spaces and parks.

Retana further added that The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy has carefully designed 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums for legacy and with sustainability in mind, as they will use Energy Efficient LED Sports lights, reuse 90% of the materials from old Al Rayyan stadium and donate Over 170,000 seats.

Ashghal’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its conformation to the GSAS Sustainability Certification for all buildings and infrastructure projects. Currently, almost 128 projects obtained the GSAS Sustainability Certification, of which 64 schools, 16 healthcare centers, 38 mosques, and 10 general sector projects.

The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development signed a new MoU to test and demonstrate the BlueStorage System at GORD’s research facility at Al Thumama Stadium Precinct in Qatar.

In light of signed agreement, BlueSolutions will be testing and demonstrating its most advanced and innovative energy storage technology, BlueStorage, at GORD’s research facility at Al Thumama Stadium Showcase Precinct, one of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup hosting stadiums.

The BlueStorage technology will work as a power supplier to the GORD’s hybrid and super-efficient QCooling technology at night, which in its turn, functions as a sustainable stadium cooling technology that uses the solar energy as a green and renewable power source.

The BlueStorage System relies primarily on the innovative LMP (Lithium Metal Polymer) battery technology, and is designed to survive the harsh climate of the hosting environment such as high temperature and dust while maintaining a suitable internal operating environment.

The innovative QCooling technology is a patented air conditioning system developed and by the GORD, and will be used to as the air cooling system at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Stadiums.

As a smart cooling system, QCooling is a fully integrated and controlled ventilation and air-conditioning system that provides super-efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable fresh cooling air for open or enclosed spaces in hot and humid climates.
